STNG NEWS ALERTS ::
Ethan Cutkosky, 9, of St. Charles, is back home. He stars in the science fiction horror film "The Unborn," which opens in theaters Friday. (Donnell Collins/For The Beacon News)
Ethan Cutkosky isn't at all like he appears on the silver screen. "It was two hours in the makeup chair," the youngster said. The St. Charles 9-year-old, a third-grader at Bell Graham Elementary School, plays a major character in Universal Studio's "The Unborn," a science fiction horror film about a woman slowly being possessed by a spirit and her attempt to fight it off.

Economy may not stop road projects
at a time when the economy is down, and a decline in revenue has forced local governments to cut jobs, freeze hiring and put projects on hold, it would stand to reason that spending on roads is threatened, too. Can any road project expect to get funded in 2009?

'Horrifying experience' in Gaza for local family
Screams from her brother-in-law awakened Sabrina Janczak and her husband, Todd, the day after they arrived in Ashkelon, Israel. He was telling them to get out of bed and hurry to the bomb shelter on the ninth floor penthouse in which they were staying. It was Dec. 27, the day Israel began its campaign of aerial attacks to end Palestinian rocket fire.

Michael Cardamone's mother and a former worker at the family's Aurora gym created bogus records in an effort to help Cardamone rebut charges he fondled seven young gymnastics students, DuPage County authorities contended Monday.

In front of a packed gymnasium, the Bulldogs' gymnasts whirled, flipped and vaulted to a school record Monday during the annual Tri-Cities Meet at the Batavia Park District gym.

MAPLE PARK -- Saturday's 61-48 win over Yorkville was more than just the first Western Sun Conference win of the season for Kaneland's boys basketball team.

Now that general manager Jerry Angelo has established quarterback as the Bears' highest priority, I'm thinking about Michael Vick. He is scheduled to be released from prison July 20, and he's made it clear he wants to resume his football career. He's an intriguing possibility for a team in search of quarterback help. I wonder if this town could forgive his crimes.

Picture of inspiration
More than 20 years ago, Bette Fetter sat around a kitchen table in her home with eight children, teaching them how to draw. It was a favor to a good friend, who could not find art classes anywhere. Little did Fetter know that a small favor would blossom into teaching 200 kids per week and eventually become a nationally and internationally known drawing program, Young Rembrandts.
