In the 16 years that Brent Hassert has been in the state legislature,
he battled cancer, witnessed John Wayne Gacy's execution and almost
single-handedly convinced state officials to widen Interstate 55. On
Jan. 13, however, Hassert's term will come to an end; the Romeoville
Republican was unseated in November's election. "I had a good run,"
Hassert said as he reflected on his time in office.
